A semi hauling tigers crashed on I-75 Monday night.

It happened about 11:50 p.m. on southbound I-75 near Wilder Road in Bay County’s Monitor Township.

Bay County Sheriff Troy Cunningham said they heard the truck was hauling animals, but they didn’t know it was hauling Bengal tigers until they responded to the scene.

The driver lost control of the truck due to weather conditions, left the roadway and jackknifed, Cunningham said.

There were eight tigers in the trailer. Neither the tigers nor the driver were injured in the crash.

The driver was transporting the tigers to New York, Cunningham said, adding they are owned by a circus company. It is unclear where the tigers were prior to the crash.
