A Mid-Michigan pet store that was at the center of a cruelty investigation less than a year ago is hoping to turn the page under new ownership.
Last November, Saginaw County Animal Control investigated Ocean Odyssey after several complaints of poor conditions in the pet store.
Officers found multiple health code issues and gave the owner 10 days to clean them up.
Animal control said the owner did address the major issues.
Now the store is under new management.
Marcia Helmreich and her husband bought the store earlier this year and spent the last several months making improvements to the store.
They hope those who may have written off Ocean Odyssey in the past will give it another shot.
“We’ve put new shelving in, changed everything. We’ve scrubbed floors. We’ve cleaned every inch of this place from head to toe,” Helmreich said.
The store is open and Helmreich said the goal is to have a grand re-opening of the store sometime in the middle of October.
